County EV Installations

Fleet was successful in obtaining $2.7M in funding for FY21 and a total of $11M in funding for EV Charging Infrastructure over the next 5 fiscal years. Below are some highlights of the overall plan: Continue to work with Customer Agencies to identify vehicles and charging locations for those vehicles which will be EV’s and require charging in current and future FY’s Identify large scale projects for/with Customer Agencies for a full scale “build out” of Charging Infrastructure for each of their facilities based on the projected number of vehicles which will be warehoused at each location to include 10% growth GCW – Large Scale project identified – Working with CMD for design/bid GCE – Continue to leverage available electrical capacity of existing facility to meet customer’s needs (new facility includes large scale EV Charging) FS3 and FS2 – Complete Large scale project as contingency operations site to include Natural Gas Fueled generators Currently GCE and GCW are our primary focus as they are the most likely locations to have EV’s. We have two small scale projects in process which will triple our charging capacity at each location. This is likely to afford us 1-2 fiscal years of growth. Once all of the in process projects are completed we will have a total of 42 Level II charging ports and 1 Level III charging port available. There are another 73 planned Level II charging ports which should be complete prior to the end of FY21 which would bring the total number of charging ports available to 116. Our current EV Fleet consists of Chevrolet Bolts, Tesla Model 3’s, and Nissan Leaf’s. These are all sedans and we are excited that two SUV models are available this year which we believe will meet our customer’s needs. The Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia Soul EV will be added to our EV portfolio this FY. While the Tesla Model 3’s have been performing admirably, the slightly higher cost and technology that….takes some getting used to has led us to remove it from our planned purchases this FY. We will continue to evaluate the units we have in our Fleet and determine if other Tesla Models in the future would be a good fit for Broward County. Effective Date: 10/30/2020
