In nearly all cases, the model outperforms the various “shuffled” alternatives, indicating that the triadic nature of the strategies is central to conflict dynamics. The effect of coarse graining the strategies is to reduce correlations; as the number of levels increases and thus finer distinctions are made, the effects disappear. The data suggest that (two positive, and two negative, levels) are sufficient to reproduce much of the group structure.
