Atmospheric rivers form a critical link between weather and climate variability. This dataset contains 12 relevant meteorological variables for atmospheric river analysis. These variables were derived from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast atmospheric reanalysis version 5 (ERA5). They are available at 6-hour intervals from 1940 onwards, covering the Earth on a regular latitude-longitude grid of 0.25 degrees. Also included in the dataset is an interactive web browser-based graphical tool for visualising the atmospheric river evolution on regional (North America) and global scales. This ERA5-based Dataset for Atmospheric River Analysis (EDARA) may serve as a valuable resource for AR-related research and applications. The 12 meteorological variables included in the EDARA data files are: two (eastward and northward) components of the integrated vapour transport (Qu and Qv), integrated water vapour (IWV), column relative humidity (CRH), total precipitation rate (TPR), 6-hour total precipitation (TP6H), 10 metre gusty wind speed (GWS10m), lower-tropospheric mean temperature (LTMT), 2 metre temperature (T2m), mean sea level pressure (MSLP), and two atmospheric river shape variables (ARS and MARS) based on the tARget-v3 algorithm and a modified version of it.
