This thesis investigated the clinical effectiveness of innovative dosing and treatment protocols for selected supportive care medicines for cancer, through the review of published literature and evaluation of real-life outcome data. This thesis provided key information to the global literature on the effectiveness and safety of rasburicase, palifermin and defibrotide. It further highlighted the importance of implementing processes to develop and evaluate protocols guiding novel dosing regimens or treatment criteria to optimise the use of supportive care medicines in cancer. This optimisation allowed the clinically effective and safe management of cancer therapy complications for a larger patient population.
