资源简介:
To describe the role of an AgeTech Implementation Response (AIR) Program in supporting the introduction and implementation of new technologies into older adult congregate living sites. A qualitative design was used to explore the perspectives of AIR Program staff (implementation specialists) and end-users (vendors, decision-makers, front-line staff, older adults) who engaged with the AIR program. The interviews were analyzed deductively using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. A total of six sites were approached to take part in the AIR Program, with only five engaging with the program. From the five sites, 33 participants including two implementation specialists were interviewed across different phases of technology implementation. Findings were organised across five main implementation considerations: intervention (technology); inner setting factors, outer setting factors, characteristics of the individuals using the technology, and process related issues. The AIR Program was viewed favorably by end-users, and helped with decision-making regarding technology adoption in congregate living settings for older adults. Barriers to implementation and adoption included limited exposure, financial constraints, and poor organisational fit, while facilitators of implementation success included perceived ease of use and integration into care, and organisational readiness. Broadly, fostering mechanisms for good communication, the identification of champions to support implementation, and adequate resources should be considered when adopting new technologies into care settings. The introduction of new technologies into congregate living settings to support the health and wellbeing of older adults can be challenging due to a variety of implementation barriers, including but not limited to, hesitancy by providers and older adults to use the technology, and other technical and system-level issues (e.g., procurement).Implementation science frameworks are useful for understanding facilitators and barriers to the introduction of new technologies into older adult congregate living settings.Additional supports, such as a knowledge broker, can play a critical role in facilitating the introduction of new technologies by promoting communication among vendors and end-users (i.e., older adults, providers, decision-makers).
