The 3-year-old plants of Betula pendula 'Dalecarlica' grew in the same site in the birch seed orchard of Northeast Forestry University in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. Fifteen young birches were selected and divided into 3 groups, and each group (5 trees) was a biological replicate. Terminal buds of upper branches and midveins were selected from the first, second, third, fourth, sixth, and eighth leaves counted from the terminal buds.
