The study applies system analysis methods to smallholder pig enterprises in two districts of Uganda to collect and analyse primary data on household demographic characteristics, pig production and management practices, ownership and control of household assets and livelihoods., The project's specific objective is to increase the productivity and profitability of Uganda smallholder pig enterprises through identifying the most appropriate pig breed-type(s); developing a genetic improvement strategy to ensure the availability and accessibility of genetically superior pigs; and supporting the uptake and optimal management of the genetically superior pigs by women and men smallholder pig keepers. The aim of collecting this data is to create an evidence base that will support on-farm decisions, service delivery by extension workers and policy formulation for improved productivity and profitability smallholder pig enterprises in Uganda.
本研究采用系统分析方法,对乌干达两个地区的散户养猪企业进行调研,收集并分析关于家庭人口统计特征、养猪生产与管理实践、家庭资产所有权及生计状况的原始数据。项目具体目标是通过识别最适宜的猪种类型;制定遗传改良策略以确保优质遗传猪的可用性和可及性;以及支持妇女和男性散户养猪户对优质遗传猪的采纳与优化管理,从而提升乌干达散户养猪企业的生产率和盈利能力。收集这些数据的目的是构建一个证据基础,以支持农场决策、推广人员的服务工作以及乌干达散户养猪企业生产率和盈利能力提升的政策制定。
