Dataset for "Toward reliable viability assessment for resilient life stages of invertebrates in ballast water" (VIABLEGG project)

This dataset contains the experimental data supporting the tables and figures presented in the report “Toward reliable viability assessment for resilient life stages of invertebrates in ballast water” by Elena Gorokhova, Pia Haecky, Rehab El-Shehawy, Nick Blackburn, Sandra Luecke-Johansson, and Elina Viinamäki. The data were generated during viability assay development and evaluation experiments involving multiple marine and freshwater invertebrates (Brachionus plicatilis, Artemia salina, Monoporeia affinis, Nitocra spinipes). Various staining methods were tested on live and heat-killed individuals, and staining intensity was quantified using image-based fluorescence analysis, expressed in Relative Fluorescence Intensity (RFI) or converted to Arbitrary Units (AU). Contents:The Excel file includes multiple sheets, each corresponding to a specific figure or table from the report. It contains: Treatment group details (e.g., species, stain, condition) Mean fluorescence/staining intensity Standard deviations Sample sizes (typically 14–25 observations per group) Notes on anatomical regions analyzed (e.g., egg sacs vs. body) Some values are based on direct image analysis; others are estimated or simulated to match qualitative observations from microscopy images, as indicated in the report. Usage:This dataset is intended to support transparency and reusability of the visual and quantitative outcomes in the project report.
