Number of non-family households U.S. 1990-2022

The number of non-family households in the United States has been on the rise. In 2022, there were about 46.94 million non-family households in the U.S., up from about 27.3 million in 1990.Non-family households are defined as either a householder living alone or where the householder shares a home with those to whom they are not related.
