Tomato and cotton plants were inoculated by dipping the roots in Verticillium dahliae spore suspensions. After ten days, plants were carefully uprooted and gently shaken to remove loosely adhering soil from the roots. Genomic DNA isolation was isolated and sequence libraries were prepared following amplification of the V4 region of the bacterial 16S rRNA (515F and 806R), and paired ends (250 bp) were sequenced using the Illumina HiSeq2500 sequencing platform.
