资源简介:
"Candidatus Nebulobacter yamunensis" is an intracellular symbiont found in Euplotes multiple times independently, in geographical areas as distant as Italy and India. While it is not essential for the host survival, the growth of the bacterium has been shown to be restricted to the host cytoplasm."Ca. N. yamunensis" is peculiar for three main reasons: (i) it is a gammaproteobacterium, while the majority of Euplotes' endosymbionts are either betaproteobacteria or alphaproteobacteria; (ii) in all the occurrences thoroughly investigated to date, "Ca. N. yamunensis" is always accompanied by another symbiont, namely the alphaproteobacterium "Candidatus Cyrtobacter zanobii"; (iii) its 16S rRNA gene sequence is 100% similar to that of a strain described as a free-living bacterium. These observations, and the latter in particular, motivated the interest for a deeper study of the symbiont, with special attention to its genomic characteristics, for further comparative analyses and studies regarding the genomic bases in the evolution of symbiosis.
