- Daily temperature variability (TV) during incubation reduced thermal optima for embryos and hatchlings- High (but not low) daily TV (i.e., ±10°C) during incubation was generally costly to embryos, particularly at a warm mean temperature (30°C)- Thermal incubation conditions can carry-over to shape tradeoffs among important traits related to life history and stress tolerance later in life- Animals may exhibit complex responses to their increasingly warmer, more thermally variable environments
