Chironomidae environmental sample Targeted Locus (Loci)

The study was conducted in seasonal wetlands in Germany, next to Neustadt-Geinsheim to monitor the aquatic emergence in 2013. Three of the areas were in a regular mosquito treatment regime since 20 years and another site served as control. Half of the area was treated as regular, the other half was not treated for the first time. The mosquito control is managed by the KABS/GMAS and performed with Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis, a sediment dwelling bacterium. The toxins produced by the bacteria during sporulation kill mosqutio larvae after the uptake within hours. Also other dipteran were affected, especially chiromids showed a reduction about 65% in abundance. To explore the species composition of the a Next-generation-sequencing with metabarcoding was performed.
