A Worldwide Household and Industry Transient Energy Data Set (WHITED) is a device startup measurement dataset. These electrical appliances were measured using an affordable and portable sound card-based measurement system. Our measurement prototype is based on a modified 3-port extension cord, a current clamp, an AC transformer, a voltage divider, and an external USB sound card equipped with the Cmedia CM6206 chipset. Signals were recorded at a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz with 16-bit amplitude resolution. Recordings were primarily conducted in household and small-scale industrial environments across different regions worldwide. Thus, region-specific grid characteristics can be extracted from the voltage waveforms in this dataset. To cover all corresponding transient events, we recorded the first 5 seconds of device startup for 110 distinct devices to date, spanning 47 different device types. The goal of this dataset is to provide a wide range of distinct device types across global regions.
