Monument to the victims of the dearness revolt at the Ottakringer cemetery in Vienna's 16th district. Great drought and associated crop failures in Austria-Hungary as well as high world market prices for food had led to price increases for bread and other foodstuffs in 1909/10. The price of flour had almost doubled and meat had become almost unaffordable for workers. The housing situation had also been exacerbated by rising rents. During demonstrations against the inflation in Vienna's Rathausplatz on 17 September 1911, a shot was fired shortly before the end and stones were thrown at the Palais Epstein.
