In order to investigate the seasonal and diel variations in microbial community (eukaryotic and prokaryotic) structure and gene expression profiles at ~1,000 m depth of the South China Sea, we generated 18 metatranscriptomic and 18 metagenomic time-course datasets. Furthermore, we reconstructed microbial genomes from the generated sequencing data and studied the ecological role of the microbes.
