资源简介:
“Shark fishing was a favourite sport. Here is one caught aboard the boat – at least it was caught in the sea & hauled aboard the boat. Then, after a fortnight of this I got fed-up – too much greasy food and no exercise, & I got a shift to Nairobi, & thence sent to Yala River post in Kavirondo country, N.E. corner of Lake Victoria to medically attend to imaginary repatriated porters. I saw about two in a delightful 1 ½ months holiday.” Portrait of a dead shark. Lt. Irvine was on board the S.S. Salamis in Portuguese East Africa and had stopped over at Lumbo. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
