In Australia, two species of lagomorphs exists, namely, European brown hares and European rabbits. No previous studies, till date, has worked on studying their 16S microbiome. We aimed in comparing the 16S microbiome of hares and rabbits to understand their bacterial composition in their faecal matter using two sequencing platforms; Illumina MiSeq and Oxford Nanopore MinION sequencers.
