Malaria is caused by parasites from the Plasmodium genus. In the human host an essential stage of the parasite lifecycle is invading red blood cells. This process requires coordinated interaction of multiple parasite and host proteins. Using genetic manipulation techniques different parasite invasion genes will be modified and the consequential change in expression and function in the invasion process will be investigated.
