Number of villages

The dataset contains statistics on administrative territory and territorial division units – number of villages__. * __Administrative territory__ – unit of territorial division of Latvia in which a local government, within the scope of its competence, carries out administration. * __Ciems__ – an area in which there is or is planned a concentrated building, permanently live people, the relevant infrastructure has been established and for which the territorial plan of the municipality has a delimitation. The status of a village shall be granted and revoked by the county council on the basis of the territorial plan of the local government. * __Mazciems__ – a historically established populated area with no delimitation in the municipality’s spatial plan and whose name is included in the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency’s Database of Place Names. As a result of the administrative territorial reform of 2021, the number of municipalities in Latvia decreased from 110 to 36.__
