Bioconverted red ginseng protects liver functions and alters insulin homeostasis-associated gut microbiome composition in aged mice

This study investigated the impact of bioconverted red ginseng (BRG) on age-driven liver dysfunctions and changes in the gut microbiome composition in naturally aged male mice. 18-to-19-month-old male C57BL/6 mice were fed a normal chow diet (NCD) with or without BRG for two different intervention periods: 4 weeks (300 mg/kg) and 14 weeks (150 and 300 mg/kg). Our findings showed promising effects of BRG by protecting liver function via insulin-related signaling and positively altering the gut microbiome profile.
