This dataset contains data collected onboard the R/V Ocean Researcher I during the summer of 2014 (August 20–31) East China Sea described in the paper: “C.-C. Chen, W.-C. Chou, and C.-C. Hung (2024). Nutrient sources, phytoplankton blooms, and hypoxia along the Chinese coast in the East China Sea: Insight from summer 2014, Marine Pollution Bulletin (accepted on July 4 2024)". Methods The designed sampling stations were located throughout the East China Sea, but the sampling stations in different sampling periods varied. Conductivity, temperature, and depth (CTD) were recorded throughout the water column with a CTD instrument (SBE9/11 Plus; Sea-Bird Electronic Inc., Bellevue, WA, USA). The water samples were collected in Teflon-coated Go-Flo bottles (20 L; General Oceanics Inc., Miami, GL, USA) mounted on a Rosette assembly (Model 1015; General Oceanics Inc.). At each station, 5–10 samples were taken at depths of 2–50 m, depending on the water depth. Subsamples were drawn from the collected water for subsequent analyses, including bacterial abundance, Chl a, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), dissolved oxygen (DO), nutrients, particulate organic carbon (POC), and total alkalinity (TA). In addition, to these analyses, onboard incubation was performed to assess plankton community respiration (plankton CR) and primary production (PP). The analyzed methods for each variable can be found in the paper. The data has been processed by a linear regression analysis using “SigmaStat” to produce a manuscript accepted for publication in Marine Pollution Bulletin.
