Foreigner Survey 1982 (1st Wave: Heads of Household)

The economic situation of foreigners in the Federal Republic.

Topics: possession of residence in Germany or native country; other
foreigners in residential area; residential status; size of residence,
furnishings and number of living-rooms; amount of rent.

The following was collected for all members of the household
individually: detailed information on demography and school education;
degree of relationship to head of household; year of arrival and length
of stay in the Federal Republic; citizenship; persons in school;
payments received under the law regarding grants for higher education
(student aid); duration and location of occupational training;
vocational training degree; current or last employment; secondary
occupation; income from employment or self-employed or from rental or
assets; receipt of a 13th month salary as well as other additional
compensations; monthly expenditures for taxes as well as compulsory
contributions to social security; net income; length of entire
employment as well as start of employment in the Federal Republic;
unemployment and payments received from the employment office; receipt
of pensions; type of health insurance and provision for old age.

Information on household as a whole: familiarity or receipt of housing
benefit and welfare; reasons for not receiving these payments; receipt
of child allowance; assets in the Federal Republic or native country;
savings account and saving according to the 624-Mark law; filing an
income tax return in 1980; transfer of money or large gifts into the
native country as well as recipient of these donations; self-assessment
of knowledge of German.
