VPRS 2884 Local Despatch Letter Book, Land Branch

This series contains copies of the outward correspondence of the Lands Branch of the Colonial Secretary's Office sent to various government officials conveying the lieutenant governor's instructions and decisions on various applications made by officials. Subjects covered include such matters as appointments, salary, compensation and details of staff duties. Considerable numbers of the letters deal with the setting up and maintenance of the administration of the goldfields.This series may belong to another shortlived branch within the office of the Colonial Secretary or may also belong with the correspondence system of the Immigration Branch. The letter on the spine of the volume fits with the sequence of correspondence volumes to Local in VPRS 16 Outward Letter Books of the Superintendent of the Port Phillip District and with the two volumes in VPRS 117 Outward Letter Books, Immigration Branch.
