A methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus strain (HS-MSSA) was isolated from a patient admitted to a public hospital in Malaysia in 2017. The patient was initially diagnosed with dengue fever upon admission. The patient's condition deteriorated rapidly and died within 24 hours after admission. The cause of death was identified as septic shock and a methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) isolate was obtained from the blood culture of the patient. The S. aureus isolate was found susceptible to erythromycin, gentamicin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, ceftriaxone, penicillin G, rifampicin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, cefoxitin, fusidic acid, and piperacillin-tazobactam. Whole genome sequence analysis was performed to elucidate the genomic features of the HS-MSSA strain that contribute to its virulence and pathogenicity.
