The highD dataset is a novel dataset of naturalistic vehicle trajectories recorded on German highways. Utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the bird's-eye perspective overcomes typical limitations of established traffic data collection methods such as occlusion. Traffic was recorded at six distinct locations, encompassing more than 110,000 vehicles. Trajectories for each tracked vehicle are automatically extracted, including their type, dimensions, and driving maneuvers. Using state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms, the localization error is typically less than 10 centimeters. Although this dataset was created for the safety validation of highly automated vehicles, it is also applicable to numerous other tasks such as traffic pattern analysis or parameterization of driver models.
