Phoebe zhennan (family Lauraceae, genus Phoebe) is a precious timber tree species. As an evergreen arbor, it also serves as an ornamental tree for courtyards and a greening tree for street landscaping. However, long-term artificial logging and utilization have led to the near exhaustion of its natural resources, while the increasing market demand has exacerbated the contradiction between supply and demand of Phoebe zhennan wood. This paper first briefly introduces the morphological characteristics, geographical distribution, ecological characteristics and growth traits of Phoebe zhennan, then summarizes the research progress in its plantation cultivation technologies including seedling propagation, polyembryony, afforestation techniques and growth regulation. Finally, it discusses the challenges faced in the cultivation, development and utilization of Phoebe zhennan plantation resources as well as the key future research directions, so as to provide references for the healthy and sustainable development of Phoebe zhennan plantations.
