This research provides one of the first network assessments of riverine C cycling in an agriculturally dominated, drought-stressed landscape. We show that the Little Bow River network exhibited low CO₂ concentrations and emissions, near-balanced NEP (Net Ecosystem Production), and declining DOC (Dissolved Organic Carbon) bioavailability downstream. By integrating basin-wide surveys with high-frequency monitoring, we demonstrated a shift from headwater to downstream conditions characterized by coupled production and respiration, elevated pH, and reduced C emissions. These findings expand on the single-site studies in most global watersheds and highlight the importance of network-scale perspectives, which remain rare, especially for agricultural landscapes.
