This project tested the effect on the intestinal microbiome of a tree-derived, acetylated galactoglucomannan (AcGGM) prebiotic feed additive that was administered in the diet of weaning piglets for up to one month after weaning. We tested three levels of AcGGM incorporation into the feed (1, 2, and 4 %) as well as a control feed without AcGGM. Each experimental group consisted of twelve piglets such that the feed trial involved sampling of 48 total piglets. Samples were obtained at five timepoints (0, 7, 14, 21, and 27 days post weaning) from about six piglets per experimental group, and at the end of the 28 day feeding trial, samples of the contents at five intestinal locations (duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, and colon) were obtained from all piglets. SSU rRNA sequencing data was obtained from all samples, and whole metagenome sequence data was obtained from twelve control and twelve 4% AcGGM samples from the colon.
