Overtime as a proportion of hours worked in emergency services, by area 2019

In 2019, the number of overtime hours worked by the staff in Canadian emergency services varied greatly from one province to another. In emergency services located in the Northwest Territories, 12.5 percent of hours worked by the staff were overtime. In British Columbia, the proportion of overtime worked by the staff reached 9.14 percent. However, in provinces such as Ontario, Alberta, or Prince Edward Island, the share of overtime stood between five to six percent. In 2019, it was estimated that 6.25 percent of hours worked in emergency services in Canada were overtime. Although this average excludes Quebec, Nunavut, and Saskatchewan.
