Fred Hutch Vaginal Metagenomics (FHVM)

The goal of this project is to better understand the bacterial species comprising the human vaginal microbiome. Shotgun metagenomics was used to obtain whole genome sequence information for uncultivated vaginal bacteria and study their predicted functions. This work will help us understand why some women experience a dysbiotic vaginal microbiome (bacterial vaginosis) and associated complications in pregnancy, such as preterm birth.
