Ammonia adsorption in a defect-engineered metal-organic framework, UiO-67, will be investigated by in situ neutron powder diffraction. Information will be obtained about the crystal structures of defect-engineered UiO-67 as a function of ammonia loading, as well as the location of ammonia molecules within the porous structures. It will help us to interpret the interaction between ammonia molecules and UiO-67 structures as well as how it leads to controllable ammonia adsorption. This work will lead to the rational design of metal-organic frameworks for ammonia storage, transportation and in situ decomposition to hydrogen.
