12S metabarcoding of eDNA from freshwater rivers Belgium

We analysed 193 eDNA filters sampled across different rivers and streams in Flanders (Northern region of Belgium) between 2021 and 2023 and performed eDNA metabarcoding to characterize the fish communities in support of the Water Framework Directive. This community structure was used to assess ecogical quality of the lotic system in accordance with the calculations from the lowland fish Index of Biotic Integrity.
