Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells is a hallmark of PVR, which remains an unresolved clinical challenge leading to vision loss. Here, we identified disregulation of junctional adhesion molecule C (JAM-C) and transcriptional co-activator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) as key regulators of RPE EMT. Overall design: To investigate the effect of JAM-C and TAZ in RPE cells, we overexpressed JAM-C or TAZ in ARPE19 cells using adevirus, with adGFP as control. We then used adGFP for comparison with adJAM-C or adTAZ by RNA-seq to construct the gene expression profile.
