Panax japonicus is a precious medicinal plant, and its rhizomes are often used for medicinal use. However, the perennial characteristics of P. japonicus significantly affect the quality of its herbs. Molecular regulatory mechanism of saponin synthesis during the growth of P. japonicus are unknown. This study performed saponin content assay and transcriptome sequencing analysis of P. japonicus for different growth years.
