NRS-8000 | Files relating to the redemption of quit rents [Ministerial (Inspectors) Branch, Department of Lands]

A quit-rent was a permanent annual due, redeemable by purchase. These files, arranged alphabetically by name of the grantee, contain sketches of the grant in question, applications to redeem the quit-rent and certificates of redemption. The date of redemption and other pertinent details such as the county and parish in which the grant is located, the date the land was granted, the number of acres or roods and the amount of the quit-rent are given in each case. Correspondence from the Treasurer relating to the payment of the quit-rent is sometimes included. A full listing is available. (3/7133-37). 5 boxes.
