资源简介:
From genomics to microbial oceanography: the adaptation of rare heterotrophic marine Cyclobacterium sp to changing C- sourcesThe majority of microbial biodiversity in the ocean lies within the realm of the rare biosphere. These rare microbes contribute to the ecology and carbon cycling that differ substantially from abundant species. Based on their growth patterns they are grouped either as copiotrophic or oligotrophic bacteria. We successfully cultured a rare bacterium, Cyclobacterium marinum, from the Atlantic slope at the depth of 260 meter and presume it to be a conditional copiotroph. This species grows in up to 12% NaCl in the artificial sea water medium under laboratory conditions. Cyclobacterium, a member of the Bacteriodetes phylum, are of great interest due to their tremendous genetic diversity and hypothesized role in the degradation of biopolymers and particulate detritus. Genome sizes range from 5.7-6.3Mb, which is three times larger than the average marine bacterial genome size. A large number of sigma factor and anti-factor are pivotal for the generation of swift and adapted metabolic response to fluctuating environmental conditions. However, the large genome and a range of regulatory factors potentially provide strategies to utilize a diverse range of C- source for growth and enhance its adaptability.
