AN XMM-NEWTON - CFHT SURVEY OF THE TAURUS MOLECULAR CLOUD

We propose an Xray survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (TMC) as an importantelement of a comprehensive investigation of this prototypical site of starformation. This project breaks new ground by combining several large surveys:The XMMNewton survey will be accompanied by deep optical and NIR surveysconducted at CFHT and millimeter CO surveys underway at Nagoya/Japan, thusaddressing many facets of the physics of star and planet formation. The TMC isthe nearest (140 pc) extensively starforming region, representative of theisolated/nonclustered mode of star formation.
