Coding near-full poliovirus sequences isolated from stool specimens of patients of acute flaccid paralysisi (AFP) between 2019 and 2021 in Uganda.

The aim of the study was to optimize nanopore sequencing and characterize polioviruses from children presenting with acute flaccid paralysis and those who were healthy as controls. The ultimate aim is to study poliovirus recombination among AFP patients. The recombination events in AFP patients will be compared to those in published circulating vaccine-derived polio viruses. The data obtained could aid in the development of safer vaccines.
