The hypothesis tested in this research was: soil N<sub>2</sub>O production and emission from mine soils reclaimed with carbon and nitrogen substrates would be significantly greater than non-amended mine system. The outcomes of the study contradicted this hypothesis and revealed that N<sub>2</sub>O emission from amended mine soils were limited and was not significantly greater than N<sub>2</sub>O emitted by non-amended system, probably because the mine soil was excessive well-drained with &gt;50% coarse fragments and reducing conditions needed for denitrification production of N<sub>2</sub>O rarely developed. This research work taught me the importance of failing and that we should take negative observation seriously because it gives us new directions and tells a story of its own, which is what makes it a great FailTale.
