R/V Falkor Sub-bottom Profiler Deployed 2013-08-17

The Knudsen CHIRP 3260 (S/N 100737) was deployed on 2013-08-17 on R/V Falkor. The Research Vessel Falkor is the flagship vessel of the Schmidt Ocean Institute. This device is a Sub-bottom Profiler. A sub-bottom profiler is an echosounder that penetrates beneath the seafloor. The backscatter data serves to obtain bathymetric data, and identify and characterize layers of seafloor and subseafloor sediment or rock. The frequency influences the range and spatial resolution. It was deployed on a mobile platform. Data from this deployment were archived and made available through Ocean Networks Canada's Oceans 2.0 digital infrastructure, with quality assurance and derived data products following established practices.
