Coptotermes formosanus Transcriptome or Gene expression

The Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki (Blattaria: Rhinotermitidae) is a serious pest that infests economically important crops and structures such as houses, buildings, boats, utility poles and underground telephone cables. C. formosanus has been studied extensively in omics including genome, transcriptome, metabolome, DNA methylome, and 16S rRNA sequencing. Those studies are mainly based on conventional Sanger sequencing, no Illumina high-throughput sequencing study has been reported so far. Here based on the Illumina sequencing platform, the termite transcriptome of C. formosanus was sequenced and assembled using as a genetic reference for the future studies. This new assembled transcriptome contains massive amounts of data and covers a wider range of developmental stages and castes (larva-worker, mature worker, pre-soldier, mature soldier, alate, replacement reproductive).
