In this study, bacterial compositions in active DD and health skin biopsy samples from Finland are investigate using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and compared with samples across the different disease stages. Feet biopsy samples from 151 dairy cows from 36 Finnish dairy farms were classified into the six categories including healthy skin from a cow in herd with some DD cases (M0), early-stage ulcerative lesion (M1), active DD lesion (M2), healing stage (M3), chronic DD lesion (M4) and M4 lesion with a reactive ulcerative area (M4.1). In addition, 13 healthy skin samples from cows living in DD-free herds (M0HH) were included as controls.
