Efficacy of 0.25% Timolol Gel in Healing Surgical Open Wounds: A Randomized Clinical Trial

In this clinical trial, we evaluate whether topical timolol 0.25% gel improves re-epithelialization when applied to surgical wounds healing by secondary intention. We recruited patients undergoing Mohs surgery and randomized 86 patients to timolol or standard of care. Study participants applied timolol or Vaseline to their surgical wounds and provided standardized photographs over the course of 24 weeks, which were scored by two blinded investigators. We evaluated time to re-epithelialization and observed no difference in this outcome between the timolol cohort and the standard of care cohort.
