Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) play key regulatory roles in the gamete cell cycle. Deletion of CDK1 in mammals results in embryonic developmental death at the morula and blastocyst stages. This suggests that Cdk1 is the only CDK required to drive the mammalian cell cycle. Although Cdk1 mutants were successfully constructed in zebrafish and their cell cycle regulation was analyzed, the role and mechanism of Cdk1 in regulating gametogenesis in animals is still unclear. Therefore, we analyzed the role of cdk1 in fish gametogenesis using comparative transcriptome analysis.
