During meiosis, programmed DNA double strand breaks are formed, causing activation of the DNA damage response kinase Mec1ATR, partly due to the activity of the DNA damage sensor Rad24. Mec1 and Rad24 have previously been found to affect Spo11-DSB numbers, and affect recombination outcomes, at single loci, but their genome-wide roles have not been examined. Here, by surveying meiotic recombination genome-wide in mec1 and rad24 mutants, we find separable roles for Mec1 and Rad24 in the regulation of meiotic recombination.
