This projected explored the use of Performance Based Funding (PBF) in Australia. This Grounded Theory study identified a gap in existing literature concerning the views of students towards PBF in Australia. This gap in current knowledge was identified as the problem to be addressed. This research used a two-stage sequential mixed method approach, which involved qualitative interviews and a quantitative survey. The surveys included senior and experienced university staff (some retired) and these interviews sought to capture data rich content from these experienced and expert sources to guide the second stage of the study. The quantitative survey was derived from both the reviewed literature and the first stage qualitative interviews. A representative student sample was surveyed to provide data for analysis. Some staff data was included however, this data was not significant and not statistically relevant. The results from the survey were compared and synthesized against the reviewed literature and the interview results. Conclusions and recommendations were prepared from the survey results and areas for future research were identified from the study.
