Study of microbial community composition in mangrove habitats of Central West coast of India. Mangrove metagenomics

In the present study, different soil samples from the mangrove habitats along the coast of Goa has been sampled. A total of five soil samples has been collected in the month of February 2015, out of which one belonged to saltpan habitat of Panjim,India, while rest of the samples belonged exclusively to mangrove habitats [Salim Ali mangrove (two samples), Divar island mangrove and Old Goa mangrove]. On their arrival in the lab, total community DNA was isolated using FAST Prep DNA isolation kit. The DNA sample was then subjected to amplicon sequencing targeting V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA gene using Illumina Paired end sequencing. So, the present project aims to study the microbial community composition from the different habitats of mangrove and to compare the shift in the community composition in addition to ecological relevance of these microbial communities and their role in maintaining the nutrient cycling and ecosystem functioning.
