The ChinaHighSO2 Dataset is the ground-level SO2 subset of the ChinaHighAirPollutants (CHAP) dataset, a high-resolution and high-quality near-surface air pollutant dataset for China. Leveraging artificial intelligence technologies and accounting for the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of air pollution, this dataset generates gap-free national ground-level SO2 data from 2013 to the present using multi-source big data including ground-based observations, satellite remote sensing products, atmospheric reanalysis data and model simulation outputs. It achieves a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.84 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 10.07 µg/m³ via 10-fold cross-validation. The dataset covers the entire territory of China, with a spatial resolution of 10 km prior to 2019 and 1 km from 2019 onwards, and temporal resolutions of daily, monthly and annual scales, with the data unit being µg/m³.
