Abstract This dataset contains geolocation-corrected GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) L2A footprints collected between 2019 and 2023 across Japan. Utilizing publicly available DEM covering 153,670.85 km² of Japan’s land area, we applied correction methods to over 2.7 million forest footprints. Among them, 1.84 million observations were successfully corrected. Validation using independent airborne LiDAR-derived canopy height data demonstrated a significant accuracy improvement, with the relative root mean squared error reduced from 35.55% to 21.07%. Note that only footprints located within forested areas and covered by DEM data are retained, and footprints where correction failed have been excluded.
